Archive Ethics: Preserving Harmful Material Without Promoting It#

Publication type: Editorial policy essay Evidence posture: Primary-source close reading and explicitly labeled editorial interpretation. Last reviewed: July 27, 2026

Preservation is an active editorial choice#

An archive is not neutral because it stores files. Choices about titles, thumbnails, search ranking, excerpts, warnings, and internal links determine how the material is encountered.

OutrightAttack.com preserves all three books while refusing promotional treatment of harmful rhetoric. Books One and Two receive prominent historical-source notices. Book Three is labeled as a supplied AI-assisted draft. The distinction is visible before download.

Access without an account wall#

Difficult material should not require an email address, payment, or identity profile. Such barriers create unnecessary collection and can make the archive look like a recruitment funnel. A single inline notice provides context without converting access into a behavioral record.

The raw PDFs are delivered from the same host through stable routes. They are not embedded through third-party viewers.

Context before quotation#

Editorial pages prefer paraphrase. Short quotations are used only when exact language is necessary to demonstrate style, contradiction, or the origin of a concept. Operationally dangerous passages are not converted into pull quotes, social cards, or highlighted snippets.

Search results prioritize complete book pages for exact titles but do not use inflammatory passages as descriptions.

Privacy of named people#

The books mention family members, acquaintances, professionals, and public figures. Public interest is not unlimited. The archive does not research or profile private people, publish current contact information, or ask them to answer the text.

A private person’s presence in an old journal does not create a permanent public obligation.

Correction without falsification#

The original file remains unchanged. Corrections and context appear in wrapper pages, annotations, source audits, and later editions. This preserves the historical record while preventing the artifact from being the final authority on its own claims.

Book Three’s self-audit is linked but does not overwrite the earlier text.

The standard#

The test is whether a reader can understand what the artifact is, why it is available, how it may harm, and how to verify or challenge claims—without the site using the artifact’s extremity to capture attention.
